Dancer | Jeweler

Nicole Mermans has been a dancer, a mover, an artist all her life. It must have been instilled long before she was born as her maternal great grandfather was a professional ballroom dancer and fencer and grandfather a gymnast. But it wasn’t until 1999 when she was introduced to the world of aerial dance through her mentor, Susan Murphy, that her life was turned upside down… literally. Her dance career spanned from helping Susan start Canopy Studio in 2001 Athens, GA, still one of the premier aerial dance studios in the southeast, to traveling with the Moscow State Circus of the Southeast, to performing and teaching nationally and internationally from China, to Jamaica, to South Africa. She eventually landed in Atlanta, Georgia and founded D’AIR in 2007, a non-profit aerial dance organization whose main focus include serving at-risk teens as well as producing professional aerial dance productions. Currently Nicole performs and teaches workshops with her duo partner, and opposite twin, Fareedah Aleem. When not in the air Nicole can often be found dancing salsa, cha cha, bachata or her newest love Kizomba on the dance floor.
