Artist Bio

Jeweler | Dancer

Nicole was no stranger to creating with her body as she transitioned from a lifetime career as an aerial dancer to a metalsmith. Instead of forming her body around the metal to tell a story as she did on the trapeze, she learned to form the metal around her body capturing the story in her work. As such, Nicole’s pieces often reflect strength, power and movement.

Kinesthetic by nature, she loves the process of choreographing with a hammer, saw and fire, hand fabricating every piece. Like the mix matched socks that she always wears to tell her left from her right when hanging upside down, she is inspired by juxtapositions and changing perspectives. She loves the challenge of finding beauty in everything, however raw, such as the scrap metal on her bench. Nicole embraces asymmetries when they are off balance on purpose. She often takes inspiration from the views of her high-rise condo window in Atlanta GA, where the deep, rustic textures of mother earth meet the sleek lines of modern architecture. Her work reflects this in mixing various precious metals, combining rough rock with faceted stones, and juxtaposing industrial hardness with a luxurious touch. She is also inspired by engineering conundrums such as intricate mechanisms that challenge her brain as she constantly seeks to create work that moves and transforms in new ways.
